I finally watched 'The Secret Life of Bees' (2008), I wanted to see it since it was released but never got the chance.
This is one of the films that belongs in my 'spirit-touchers' collections - i.e. films that make me think deeply and get me stirred emotionally.
This film takes a nice angle on illustrating some of the pressures African-Americans had to go through back in the day.
Of course, I love seeing the ladies with natural looking hair!
Although, my husband said "Are you sure thats Alicia Keys? I thought she was white". My mouth froze for a minute! Huh?!
I was surprised he genuinely meant this, but it was also very interesting. It made me wonder about the image singers are portraying with the makeup; hair extensions; bright lighting; airbrushing....
My favourite character was 'May', a woman who had suffered a great loss and was super-sensitive to the pain and wrongdoings in the world. I could really understand her character and the feelings she must have had. I am officially a big fan of Sophie Okonedo, who played the character of May excellently.♥
PS. I think its very classy that Jada Pinkett-Smith and Will Smith where producers of this film without appearing in the movie.
